Tag, You're It! #81: Pantone 2019

It's great to have the Tag, You're It! challenge back up and running!  The challenge theme will vary, and this time we have a color challenge to use the 2019 Pantone color of the year:  Living Coral.

I had a bit of a Pantone predicament, a coral conundrum, if you will.  I pulled out every coral coloring medium, ink, embellishment, and paper I could find, and quickly became overwhelmed.  I didn't realize I had so much coral in my midst.  I dibbled and dabbled with every bit of it, to the point where one would think I was decorating a room rather than making a tiny tag.  Slowly, I eliminated element by element and this little shaker tag came together.

Supplies:
Dies:  MFT Tag Builder Blueprint #4, PTI Wet Paint Cuts, LF Quilted Backdrop
Stamps: HA Dot Moire, HA Damask Background (background tag)
Ink: Lindy's Magicals Cosmopolitan Pink, Distress Oxide Abandoned Coral, Catherine Pooler Coral Cabana
Other:  Glossy Accents, Crayola coral/gold glitter glue, large flower sequins - brand unknown, Making Memories Funky Fibers
Are you up for the Pantone challenge?  Click on over to the Tag, You're It! challenge blog for all the details, check out the design team's tags, and come play along!

Tag You're It! #79 with Leigh Penner

Today begins our final challenge over at Tag, You're It!  You will find all of the details over at the Tag, You're It! challenge blog.  Thank you, everyone who joined in the fun.  It's been a blast seeing all your mini "canvases" in the gallery.  We're ending the show on a high note with a wonderful tag by the talented Leigh Penner.  Here is how I was inspired:
Here's Leigh's gorgeous tag:
Leigh's tag is a CAS work of art.  I love her gold tipped snowflake and the beautiful white on aqua paired with a bold banner sentiment across the front.  My bold sentiment also lies across the front of the tag.  I patterned Leigh's curved tag top with my curve on the bottom.  I kept with Leigh's snowflake theme, color scheme, and metallic edging.

Supplies:
Dies: Studio Katia Dotted Shaker Tag 2, Papertrey Ink Christmas Cheer, Mama Elephant Snow Flurries
Paper:  BoBunny Altitude 6x6 pad
Other: fun foam, organza white ribbon, PPP clear sequins, SSS fine detail silver embossing powder, VersaMark pen, acetate packaging

I sure hope you will join us for this final fortnight of fun.  You can find much more inspiration over at Tag, You're It!

Thanks for coming over to visit.  I hope you have a wonderful day!

Tag, You're It! #77 With Hazel Kinvig-Paul

It's time for a new challenge over at Tag, You're It!  We're CASEing a dear blogging friend of mine, Hazel Kinvig-Paul of My Card Attic.

When I CASE someone's work, I like to sketch out their card or tag first.  It helps me to look closer at the elements within the design.  Hazel has some remarkable details that I wanted to include on my tag:
Here's Hazel's tag:

There are several obvious similarities in our tags such as the baby theme, baby clothes, scripty sentiment and bow.  One less obvious element would be the connection between the clothing and the tag itself.  Hazel placed the neck of the onsie right on the hole of the tag, which was very clever.  I connected the clothing to the tag by hanging it on the sentiment.  Hazel also has hearts in the background to reflect the little heart on the onsie, so I used a star on the overalls and scattered some in the background as well.

Supplies:
Stamps:  MFT Denim Background
Dies: MFT Creative Clips, MFT Tag Builder Blue Prints 4, Bundles of Baby Clothes, SSS Hand-lettered Greetings
Other: Tumbled Glass DI, Brusho - Scarlet, Brilliant Red, Orange, Yellow, Copic C0, Sharpie - Metallic Silver, Nuvo Crystal Drops - Silver Lining, Strathmore Cold Press 140lb Watercolor Paper

Please stop by the Tag, You're It! blog to see how other DT members were inspired.  I hope to see your inspiration in the gallery!

Thanks for coming over to visit.  I hope you have a wonderful day!

Tag, You're It! #75 with Marcia Hill

Today we kick off a new challenge over at Tag, You're It! with a wonderful fall scene by my dear blogging friend, Marcia Hill!  Marcia is my special guest for this challenge.  Marcia is a beautiful, talented, and encouraging card maker and blogger.  She has a "clean and layered" style which I LOVE, and she's not afraid to try new techniques.

Here's how I was inspired by Marcia:

Here's Marcia's delightful tag:

When I saw Marcia's tag, I was so excited to recreate the fall theme, but as you can see, my tag decided to take another route.
I received a gift certificate in a release blog hop from Studio Katia.  Thank you, Studio Katia!  I chose this adorable stamp set and tag die.  Although it's fall, and this bear is getting ready to go into hibernation, just now he's ready for a party!  The tag shape is similar to Marcia's and her fall sky turned into a blue glittery background for my bear.  The floating orange balloon is reflective of Maria's little orange leaf.

Supplies:
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black
Copics:  E23,25,27,30,31,35,37,50,51,53, YR00,61,65,68
Other:  glitter paper by Recollections, floss - Hobby Lobby brand

I hope you will join us over at Tag, You're It! for this new challenge.  Take a look there and see the many ways our design team was inspired by Marcia.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit.  I hope you are having a wonderful day!

Back from a Summer Break and TYI Challenge #73

Hello!  It's so good to be back to blogging.  I hope you had a great summer (or winter, depending on your hemisphere).  The time seemed to whiz by, but it was a much needed break with my family and all the activities of summer.  Our girls are turning 14 and 16, and will be out the door before I realize what's happening!

I'm starting out fall with a thank you tag for Tag, You're It! inspired by my talented friend, Tracey:

Here's Tracey's beautiful tag:
Who can resist the resist!  That was the first thing that caught me eye with Tracey's beautiful medallion and water droplets.  Secondly, I wanted to reflect the tag's bottom edge with the picket fence.  Fall, apples, and picket fences - so much for which to be thankful!

Supplies:
Stamps:  PTI What the Doodle Apple
Dies:  Lawn Fawn Little Picket Fence Border
Ink:  DI Candied Apple, Picked Raspberry, Memento Tuxedo Black, VersaMark
Other:  SSS White Fine Detail embossing powder, spray bottle, water, thread from Hobby Lobby, finger daubers, Making Memories eyelet tool (to make the hole on the top of the tag).

Check out how others were inspired and join us in CASEing Tracey's tag over at Tag, You're It!  Thanks so much for coming over to visit!  I hope you have a wonderful day, and I will be around to catch up in blogland soon!

Tag, You're It! #72 with Lindsey Larson

Tag, You're It! is in the second week of our month long challenge.  Lindsey made an elegant tag for us to CASE this month!  Here's how I was inspired:
Here's Lindsey's beautiful creation:
I got quite literal in my interpretation this time.  I loved Lindsey's white on blue die cutting but I mimicked it with patterned paper.  I did incorporate white lacey die cuts, but used them to imitate Lindsey's decorative corners.  I heat embossed the letters twice in gold and popped them onto fun foam.

Supplies:
Dies:  MFT Stitched Square Frames, MFT Four Corners, SSS Heart Smile
Paper:  MFT Roses All Over
Other:  Ranger Embossing Powder - Princess Gold, Fun foam, repurposed gold twine

I hope my teammates and I can encourage you to play along this month with Tag, You're It!  We'd love to see how you are inspired by Lindsey's tag!

Thanks for coming over for a visit.  I hope you are having a wonderful day!

Tag, You're It! #71 Week 2

Each Tag, You're It! inspiration is now open for interpretation for an entire month.  I personally love this format because usually by the time I get to play in a challenge, it's already gone.  We are in the second week of our current challenge and our team has another batch of tags influenced by Lindsey.  Here's mine:

And here's Lindsey's beautiful tag:
I really wanted to practice my no-line coloring some more, so I chose these two gnomes, positioned them like the two tulips together, and gave them predominately red and green outfits.  I love the crisp red and white of Lindsey's tag, so I kept very close to her design.  I debated whether I should keep the background white, but once I committed to the blue, I kept it as smooth as possible to reflect Lindsey's solid (white) colored background.  In hindsight, I think it's too flat for these fellows, but there's always next time.

Here's a close-up of these two rascals:
Now looking at them I think, "why did they shave off their eyebrows?"  Next time I'll have to remember to give them some old man fluffy eyebrows!

Here's how they looked when I initially determined the position of these stamps, before stamping them with masks and in light ink:

Supplies:
Stamps:  MFT You Gnome Me
Dies:  MFT Thanks and Hello, MFT Tag Builder Blueprints 4 (the red circle)
Copics:  0, E000,00,11,40,41,42,43,44, W00,1,3,5, C00,1,2,3,5,6, R24,27,29,59, G20,21,24,28, BG000, B00,02
Ink:  Memento Desert Sand
Paper: PTI Pure Poppy, Neenah Solar White
Other:  Ribbon and twine from Michaels

I hope you will join us this month over at Tag, You're It!  If you go over to the TYI blog, you will see from the design team that there are many ways to interpret a tag!  Thanks for coming over for a visit.  I hope you are having a wonderful day!

Tag, You're It #69 with Joyce Mehrberg

Today we start a new challenge over at Tag, You're It!  Joyce Mehrberg, my dear blogging pal, is our featured artist, and her tag is so much fun!  Here's how I was inspired:
Here is Joyce's tag:
I love Joyce's fluffy pompom and that wonderful cat!  Pompoms remind me of roller skating, so that's the direction I took with my tag.  I kept the rest one-layered like Joyce's tag.  I didn't have a roller skate stamp, so I printed an image on cardstock and die cut the tag around it.  I shaded it with Copics and stamped the sentiment.
Here's how I attached the pompom on the back:
Supplies:
Stamps: Lawn Fawn Let's Play
Dies:  PTI Basic Bookmark 3
Copics: BG000, BG02
Ink:  SSS Intense Black
Other: 80s Roller Skating Clipart from Clipart Kid, Clover pompom maker - small (the larger of the two), Red Heart Soft Baby Steps - Aqua (yarn)

The team was inspired in many different directions by Joyce's tag, so go on over, take a look, and play along with Tag, You're It #69.

Thanks for coming over to visit!  I hope you have a great day!

Tag, You're It #68 with Gayatri Murali and a Blooper!

Have you seen the challenge going on over at Tag, You're It?  It's the midway point, so there is still plenty of time to play along.  Gayatri Murali gave us a fun tag, and I immediately wanted to CASE it!

Here is Gayatri's super fun tag:
It's pretty obvious that I was inspired by the brick background and the sweet dog.  I also took note of her sentiment banner, and the curly dog leash at the top.

Supplies:
Stamps:  Katzelkraft Les Chiens, SSS You Matter, Penny Black Brick Wall
Dies:  MFT Stiched Cloud Borders, PTI Tag Sale #10
Inks/Paint:  DI Tumbled Glass, Hickory Smoke, Fired Brick,  Making Memories acrylic paint - Steel, Chocolate
Copics: C00, 1, 3, 5, 7, 100, R24, 27, 29, 59, 20, 81, 83, RV000, Y
Other:  SSS Fine detail white embossing powder, coated wire of unknown origin

You also probably know that Darnell has a fun challenge going on at her blog which is a combination of an April Fools Hop and NBUS Challenge #11.

Coming April 1-11, 2017

This is the first time I've used this particular dog from the Les Chiens set, but I have used the set before, so let's move on to the Boo Boos, shall we?

Since I had some snippets left over from the tag, I planned on making my brother's 50th birthday card using the same materials.  I like the look of die cutting and layering a background, so I decided to do that with the brick wall.  As card designs usually take on a life of their own, the design went far away from the circle focal, and it ended looking like a glaring random element to the design.  Then I wanted to make some balloons out of the number 50, so I partial cut the numerals out of acetate, leaving space for balloon nubs on the bottom.  I tried to color them with Copics.  I hoped to find a method to smooth out the streaky lines, but nothing really worked.  I moved onto vellum, but that wasn't great either.  As you will see in the photo, I even lost the bottom border of grass that was cut with the stitched lines.
I did salvage the card, as it is for my brother, and even though he cares about me, my card making skills will not be critically evaluated:
I just used the circle portion of the brick wall, and ink blended regular white cardstock for the balloons with Mowed Lawn and Carved Pumpkin Distress Ink.  I also used a smaller kraft card base to narrow the focus a bit.

Supplies not listed from the tag:
Dies:  MFT Pierced Circle Frames, Grassy Hills, By the Numbers, SSS Stitched Rectangles

Thanks for coming over to visit.  I hope you get a chance to play along over at Tag, You're It! and maybe you'll even have cause to link up with the April Fools hop too!  Have a wonderful day!
