Sliding through Candy Land with Lawn Fawn | Video!

Do you remember playing Candy Land?  I remember one time playing it at a friend's house while watching reruns of The Mickey Mouse Club and Gilligan's Island.  Some memories are just so vivid like that.  The board graphics have changed throughout the years.  In fact, the one I remember in the 70s was not the original.  Eleanor Abbott designed the game in the 1940s while hospitalized with polio so that children would have something to play in the hospital.  Now I can't imagine the amount of disinfecting that would have to occur if the hospitals had it now.

I love that Lawn Fawn sets work together so well!  I took a bit of artistic license, ideas from the various editions, and not everything on the game is included on my card.  I did include Queen Frostine, rainbow bridge, the boy and girl holding hands, the molasses swamp, Candy Castle, the Lollipop Woods, Gumdrop Mountains, Peppermint Stick Forest, and the peanut brittle house. I think my favorite part are the die cut gingerbread men that mimic the plastic gingerbread playing pieces. They slide along the maze.

I have a video showing how this card came together.  You can watch it here, on Lawn Fawn's YouTube channel, or my YouTube channel:

  1. This is truly a work of art, Kara. All the little details tell a perfect story of Candy Land. I love how you made overalls and striped shirts for the kids, the cattails in the pond and everything so tiny. The board pieces are awesome and it's so clever how they move through the board. Great card and coloring, especially on those little bitty pieces.
