29 Again?

You know, I think I'm starting to appreciate January.  Freezing, short days with nothing to look forward to REALLY means the ability to cozy up, and spend time crafting!  Today I want to share a card I made for my brother's birthday:

I made the inside guy a wobbler by making a spring out of wire:

Hee hee, that's why we have brothers, right?  I used water color paper and Distress inks for the background and the grass.  Something odd happened to the grass on the left of the card, not sure how that happened.  Looking at it now, I think I would try to get the grass darker in the background and lighter in the foreground, but hey.  I stamped the images from Paper Smooches Cuteasaurus and sentiment from Birthday Sampler.   They were inked with Memento Tuxedo Black, and colored with Copics.  The speech bubble was hand drawn and outlined with a Zig Writer marker in black.  The images on the front were popped up with foam adhesive.

I have a few blogging goals this year:
1)  Figure out how to put a watermark on my photos
2)  Become a more consistent blogger while balancing time wisely
3)  Meet and share with more people in this great community

Here's a funny story:
My brother likes to compete in Iron Man competitions, so a couple of years ago for his birthday I made him this card:
For those of you who don't know, that's the Iron Man logo.  I blogged about it here.  Anyway, my brother was reading an Iron Man Facebook group thing (okay, now I'm showing you now how little I understand Facebook) and saw his card used as a guy's profile picture.  So cool how images get around!  So I Googled the image and found it didn't link back to my blog, but to a bakery blog with their watermark on the photo.  How interesting!  He thought I would be offended, but I'm actually just honored by it, I'm sure their watermark just appears on all of their pictures.  It did boost me to create this year's goal to learn how to put a watermark on my photos.  "Easy," you say, but the whole technical process is slow for me.  What I'd really love to do is sit down with someone face to face and ask them all my "how do you" questions.  How about you?  What are your blogging goals this year?  I'd love to hear what you're wanting to do.

I'm joining the fun today over at the following challenge blogs:

  4. Gosh, I adore those little dinos! Again, your coloring is superb! And I probably should watermark my photos, too. Huh? Maybe I need to be asking about the dangers instead. I'm so naïve that way.

  7. Super cute card!! Love the little dino's and your coloring!! With this cold weather i've been at the craft table more this week!! Also check out picmonkey.com for adding a watermark, its super easy! Open your photo, click on the butterfly, then click on the Your Own button, window pops up for you to find your watermark. The watermark will show up over your photo and you can move it around, make it smaller/bigger. Hope this helps!! :)

  8. Firstly - your card is absolutely adorable!! Haha those dinos just cracked me up. I especially love how their faces already look like they are gearing up for a good joke.
Secondly, I agree with Dana, creating a watermark in Picmonkey is a breeze and such a great idea. As flattered as you may be, it's your art and you should be recognized. :) Here's the tutorial I used that showed me how to make my watermark. http://www.momontimeout.com/2013/03/how-to-create-a-transparent-custom-watermark-in-picmonkey/

  11. OMG, this is so stinkin' cute, Kara Lynne! I really love that you went the extra mile with your sproingy guy on the inside!! Thank you so much for your kind words and for entering my NBUS Challenge three times!!

Ah, the watermark thing. Picasa also has a watermark feature on their editing software, but I think picmonkey might be easier/nicer. The thing is, people can still steal your card/photos and just crop your watermark off if it isn't a true watermark that covers the whole card and none of us wants a watermark that does that.

In this case, I think even without a watermark you can still prove the IM art was originally your work by the date on the photo if it was developed or the date when it was uploaded which you can find by right-clicking on the photo and choosing "properties." That will tell you the date it was originally taken. If a company is a for-profit company, such as a bakery, I would definitely send them a letter, with a copy of your art work, preferably date-stamped somewhere, and ask them to contact you regarding compensation for using your original artwork. I mean, you should double-check with a lawyer, but my understanding is that you still have options for recovery even if you didn't have a watermark on it. BTW, they might have tried to trace it before using it and not been able to trace it to you and they might be very nice about it. Just my 58 cents coz I talk too much!

Re other bloggie tech stuff, feel free to email me any time. If I don't know the answer, I might know someone who does. Thanks again! Hugs, Darnell
