Twofer Card Challenge #2: Hearts

Welcome back to the second installment of the Twofer Card Challenge.  Today I am featuring the Simon Says Stamp Clipping Heart die in two very different ways for a Mother's Day card and a Valentine.
I am really enjoying the challenge of finding ways to make two totally different cards.  The first card features patterned papers with a little ink blending and a lot of white space.  The die stands on its own as a focal point.  The second card varies in shape, features watercolors and sprays, and has the die cut service as more of an overall background.

For the Mother's Day card, the hearts are coming out of the chimney of one house.  That's the home where I grew up - my mom and dad filled it with love!  The rows of houses were cut and staggered a little.  I inked the bottom of each house layer, the bottoms of the hearts, and the trees with a similar color of Distress ink to give everything a bit of dimension.  I could've popped each row up on foam, but I needed this to be a flat card.
The second card uses three of the die cut outlines along with a few pieces of a fourth outline to cover the area.  The front panel was first water colored and misted before I adhered the die cuts.  A single pink heart with an embossed message was popped up with fun foam.  The trick to standing up a shaped card is to cut a little off the bottom of the back panel.
Head on over to the Twofer Card Challenge blog to see more inspiration.  I hope to see your heart creations in the gallery!

  6. I love reading all the details of your process, Kara! Since I normally stamp one image and a sediment and maybe add a coupla embellie, I am fascinated by those who have an eye for layered and inked designs with lots of dementia and my goal is to learn and stretch my unused design skills. Each card is so vibrant with color, too, which I also love AND you made one of your cards a shaped card! Last and best, I adore how you have the hearts floating out of the chimney of the home where you grew up! I love that sentimntal touch!! Hugs, Darnell

The shading at the bottom gives them depth and dimension. Your heart shaped card is AWESOME! Thanks for the tip of cutting the back of the card flat so it sits up properly. Great tip! 17. Wow, I love your cards! They both are clever and well executed. I love how you made your mother's day card, the row houses layered and stacked are perfect, but it is the hearts come from the chimney that I really love! How great that you grew up in a home with lots of love, not many have that and I love that you showed how loved you were with this card. Your second card is equally fabulous. Love the inky background and then the hearts on top. So pretty! Hugs, Brenda

  19. This heart die has been used beautifully on both cards Kara and love the way you have incorporated it by adding it to the three prettily coloured die cut layers of buildings, and then the all over look on the stand alone heart card, and adore the lovely pinks and purples and the pretty small pink filled in heart, with the white embossed sentiment is a great touch. x

  29. You Twofer gals are doing an amazing job with the inspiration. Wonderfully adorable hillside town with so much love in the one house that it can't be contained and is floating upward to the sky. Too clever and cute! Love your shaped card with its pretty background, too. You'd hardly know it was the same die. I like your idea for helping the card stand up straight. Thanks for that!
