Super Cute Laundry

This final event, Speed Cardmaking, of the MFT Creative Olympics just about did me in!  When it comes to crafting, I am anything but fast!  My mother used to tell me that my theme song was "I Like to Take My Time" by Mr. Rogers.  In fact, my first attempt was an epic fail, but like the snow boarding events, I used my best time out of three.  Actually, I only needed a second chance to get under the twenty minutes, even though I put all the supplies back so as not to have a head start.  I just needed to crank out those die cuts more efficiently and adhere everything faster!  I certainly was not going to attempt to color quickly for this event.

If I had more time, I probably would've added shading with a little ink blending, and the clothesline would be up a little farther.

And here is the result of my first attempt, which took almost 28 minutes:

No time to even add the clothes pins and I didn't realize it was upside down until it was all done!  I will just end up adding clothespins and cutting off the front to use as a panel on another card base.

Here they are together.  I learned one big lesson from this event, I'm more of a distance crafter than a sprinter!  I also hit a crafting milestone: this card used up the last of my kahuna 36 yard roll of foam tape - I never thought that would happen.

Sliding and Smiling

Whew!  Finished my card for Event #3 of the MFT Creative Olympics: Crafty Biathlon.  In this event, we are to choose one technique and one card type from their list of options.  I chose masking and slider.

The flowers were masked and colored with Copics.  The chameleon was stamped with Staz-On ink onto acetate.  After cutting out the word 'smile' and heat embossing the top sentiment, I popped up the panel with foam tape.  The word die cut was also cut out of foam, but the negative was only adhered to the top panel so the element could easily move through the channel.   I created the slider element using a brad.  After poking the brad through the flower and acetate, it was secured very loosely through a small piece of green cs on the back side of the panel.  The next photos just show the chameleon sliding around and changing colors.

A Trifecta of MFT Challenges

Cue the Olympic Fanfare music!  This bear is joining in on the winter themed MFT 2018 Creative Olympics Event #2 - Freestyle.  It's quite a thrill that, in the process, he gets to join both MFT's Color Challenge and Sketch Challenge!

 

White pigment ink was stenciled onto black card stock to create the background.  This polar pal was colored with Copics and a white gel pen and popped up on foam adhesive to give him a natural shadow on the snow.

It's a Pig Deal!

This little piggy's gotta blast his horn - it's his PIG day!  The Olympics are here, and he's joining in on the fun with MFT's Creative Olympics.  This first event is called Stamping Slalom where we create one card that includes at least three separate MFT stamp sets.  I used six different MFT sets on this card, but one was to make the hills, so it hardly counts.

I will always remember playing John William's Olympic Fanfare in high school band.  It was exhilarating!  I played trumpet in high school and college.

Twofer Card Challenge #2: Hearts

Welcome back to the second installment of the Twofer Card Challenge.  Today I am featuring the Simon Says Stamp Clipping Heart die in two very different ways for a Mother's Day card and a Valentine.

I am really enjoying the challenge of finding ways to make two totally different cards.  The first card features patterned papers with a little ink blending and a lot of white space.  The die stands on its own as a focal point.  The second card varies in shape, features watercolors and sprays, and has the die cut service as more of an overall background.

 

For the Mother's Day card, the hearts are coming out of the chimney of one house.  That's the home where I grew up - my mom and dad filled it with love!  The rows of houses were cut and staggered a little.  I inked the bottom of each house layer, the bottoms of the hearts, and the trees with a similar color of Distress ink to give everything a bit of dimension.  I could've popped each row up on foam, but I needed this to be a flat card.

The second card uses three of the die cut outlines along with a few pieces of a fourth outline to cover the area.  The front panel was first water colored and misted before I adhered the die cuts.  A single pink heart with an embossed message was popped up with fun foam.  The trick to standing up a shaped card is to cut a little off the bottom of the back panel.

A Happy Couple

Love is in the air around blogland these days.  I've had so much fun combining a few challenges in this card:

 

This happy couple and their bike was colored with Copics, but everything else was white heat embossed and ink blended with Distress Inks.  Rather than cut out the space inside the bike tires, I ink blended that part too to match the background.

When the kids were little we put a tandem tag-a-long on a tandem and rode on the bike trails as a family.  It was a great way to make sure everyone was keeping up!

I was practicing some no-line coloring techniques that I learned watching Jane Allen in the MFT class and in her tutorials.
