So Proud of You!

Thank you, everyone, for your kind and encouraging comments on the Summer Carousel card.  Welcome and thank you to my new followers too!  It is such a privilege getting to know you all.

Today's card is CAS.  Every Tuesday the Silhouette online store gives away a free digital image.  This peacock feather graphic came free as a larger background a while back.  I was trying to figure out how to make some fringe-like feathers to go with it, and I knew I wanted to use this stamp sentiment so, voila!

 

That's not dust on your screen, it's a shimmer mist on the "eye" edged with glitter.  I raised up one edge of it with foam tape to give just a little dimension.  The thin green strip was cut using the Creative Memories curvy cutting tool (which I neglected to add to the Inlinkz).

Summer Carousel

Every time I finish a card I think, "Okay, that's it for a while, I have other things to do."  But then a new exciting challenge (or three) sparks my synapses and I'm right back into my craft cabinet.  This time it was a combination of The Play Date Cafe and the Shaping Up Blog Hop and Giveaway by the Paper Crafts Gallery Idol's top 20 winners.  Have you seen their shaped cards yet?  I've been able to see most of them, but still working through.  That leads me to another "every time" situation.  Every time I look around blog land I find so many talented card makers to follow.  I only started blogging in March, but sometimes I feel like I've been hiding under a rock because I'm still just getting to know the community.  Here's a card I made to play along with my blogging pals:

I cut a sheet of overhead projector film and scored it in half.  The carousel shape is from the Silhouette online store.  I've had it for a long time, but just used it now.  I freehand cut the manes and saddles because these horses were only silhouettes.  I also cut the flowers on the Silhouette.  Have you noticed I've been into making those flowers lately?  I used a white gel pen for the middles.   I adhered everything with glue dots or the Xyron.  The back of the card was cut twice and the acetate was sandwiched in between to give it a finished look and so I can write on it.  I thought the front was busy enough, so I did not include a sentiment.  I'm sure I'd write "happy birthday" inside.

Happy Birthday, Iron Man

Today is my brother's birthday.  He had his midlife crisis several years ago and decided to get back into shape.  Wish that was how I dealt with crisis!  Have you noticed that card making does not expend near the amount of calories it should?  Anywho, he completed his first Iron Man competition last year in Louisville, KY and this year it's Madison, WI.  We all tease him now because he came home from Louisville with about every and anything that had the IM emblem on it: hat, shirt, phone cover... you get the picture.  So I decided to make him an IM birthday card.

Not much to explain here.  I will write the message inside with a white gel pen.  Besides the circle, I cut everything pretty much free hand from my scraps.  Does anyone else still use the Creative Memories circle and oval cutters from about ten years ago?  I also use the small personal trimmer.  These are the tools that launched me into the scrapbooking and now the card making world.

This card fits very nicely into the challenge over at CAS-ual Fridays this week.

You Make Life Wonderful

Out of the two of us, my husband is the romantic one.  When I was pregnant with our first daughter he gave me a corsage on Mother's Day that had a rose (for me) and a little bud (for the one to come).  When I was pregnant with our second daughter the corsage had a large rose, a smaller one, and a bud.  To my shock and horror, the little bud got knocked off while pinning it on!!  Thankfully I am not superstitious, but I was hormonal so you can imagine the scene!  Anyway, here's my go at a romantic card:

Bonjour, Mon Ami

I'm so happy for this young lady!  She's outside in the fresh air, riding her bike, without a cloud in the sky, or a care in the world.  Best of all, she's touring France!  Okay, now I'm getting a little worried for her.  Is she somehow mistakenly qualified and entered in Le Tour De France?  Watch out for your flower basket, girlie!  Oh, I do hope she stays to the right.

The signs and flowers were cut on the Silhouette.  I stamped the girl on white, colored her with Copics, and cut her out.  I paper pieced her skirt.  I also stamped her on the blue and lavender to get the wheels and bike chain.  The bricks and the "bridge" were heat embossed.  I blended some distress ink to the top and bottom of the blue cardstock.  Papers were all from my scraps.
