During our retreat last week, Anita showed us how to make make a background using Distress Ink and tissue paper. Basically, you put ink on a craft mat, mist it, set a piece of gift tissue on it, pull it off, and let it dry. Then you crumple up the tissue, flatten it out and scrunch it onto a piece of cardstock layered in glue. Okay, fine, no biggie, but then the magic happens: lightly dab VersaMark over the crinkles and heat emboss - WOW! I'll be doing this again!
While on the retreat I made a total of ZERO cards, lol! So now I'm putting together cards from the different things we made.
I heat embossed the sentiment to match the veining. The die cut was heat embossed several times to look like a piece of metal. I think it looks like shaped wire. The pictures just don't do it justice, but here's a close-up:
Supplies:
Stamps: SSS You Matter
Dies: SSS You, MFT Stitched Square Frames
Other: Tissue paper, white cs, SSS Ultra Fine Silver embossing powder, VersaMark, Distress Inks (I don't remember what combination I used).
This card is going over to play at the following challenges:
CAS Mix Up October Challenge: Metal + Stamping + Your Choice - YAY! I finally have a CAS card so I can play in Loll's challenge!
Simon Says Stamp Flickr Challenge #108: Anything Goes
Seize the Birthday: Anything Goes
Thanks for coming over to visit! I hope you are having a wonderful day!
Kara
The die cut sentiment really does look like shaped wire and is great for the metal challenge. Such a beautiful card with great colours and a unique and fabulous technique on the background. Thank you for joining in the challenge at The CAS Mix Up with your beautiful CAS card, whilst mixing the medias x.
ReplyDeleteVery vibrant effect indeed! Thanks for sharing Kara!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures often never do any justice, but I find photography of shiny silver/ gold etc the most difficult. I think your card is incredible but seriously your pics are great too!
ReplyDeleteThe silver against that vibrant colourful panel is truly beautiful. Love the thickness you got in the "you" word die.
ReplyDeleteThe design is totally CAS and the double framing gives a stunning elegance.
Thanks so much for joining us at CAS Mix Up!
This is SOOO pretty Kara! Loll has a cool video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYNnouzX6RU) on this technique and if you want more ideas to look at CAS Mix Up did a challenge in July 2017 with the tissue paper. But anyway, I love your CAS card and the colors you used look just like a party, so perfect for a birthday card! And your silver embossed "you" and framing are the perfect finishing touches!! Lovely, lovely card my friend!! :0)
ReplyDeleteWow...Stunning crinkled tissue background for your layered silver heat embossed sentiment. Love your stitched die cut framing too. TFS and joining us at CAS Mix Up. Hugs..

ReplyDeleteOh wow, this is so pretty Kara! I love the marbled look the ink gives the paper and then add the heat embossing and WOW! Such gorgeous colors and CAS design. Can't wait to see more of the cards that came from your weekend away.
ReplyDeleteI have several sheets of watercolored tissue in my drawer from an earlier CAS challenge. I need to get them out and make a card or two. Yours is fabulous, Kara. I love the colors and that wire-look die cut. I need to try that too. Thanks for all the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteLove this card and the technique. It just shines and that is so cool to make the frame from the same paper. Thanks for sharing how you did it.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous Kara! I especially love the colors! Sounds like you had a great time meeting up with everyone! Thrilled to have you in our gallery at Seize the Birthday! I am going to have to give this a try!
ReplyDeleteI can't stop staring at how beautiful a piece of crumpled tissue paper and a bit of ink makes. Stunning result and layout. I need to try this out too. I have been hoarding tissue paper especially for that technique and never got to play. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful piece of tissue paper, Kara! I love the colors with the silver embossing and how you've framed a piece so it adds wonderful interest! The embossed sentiment does look like wire and I love the heat embossing on black for contrast! Thanks so much for sharing this with us at CAS Mix Up!
ReplyDeleteYou're doing so much better than me with your post-Lake House card making, Kara ... I have a grand total of zero made so far ... though may just get to remedy that today. What a crisp, CAS and gorgeous card you created with that morceau of tissue ... love how the 'wire' sentiment mimics the shimmery silver embossing ... it's just yummy! That was such a fun technique to share ... so pleased we got to play with it! Big hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteOh is this ever pretty! The silver took this to another level!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the results of this technique... I did it last year and still had some to make Christmas cards with this year. Yous card is gorgeous!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteGetouttatown! Do I recall, not too too long ago mentioning to you a lovely lady in WI who makes cards. And now you go and spend a crafty weekend with her and all those lovely faces! Lucky girl. I'm sooooo happy for you that you not only hooked up with Bev, but also the rest of the gang. One day I might have to crash your party ;) Love the magic on your card, BTW. And I'm still drooling over your harvest mice.
ReplyDeleteStunning make from the crumpled tissue, Kara! You've made Anita so proud! It works so beautifully with the sediment, frame, and CASlicious design you've made!! Hugs, Darnell
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Kara, that is gorgeous. Lucky you and Marcia getting to go to another craft retreat. Looks like you had fun
ReplyDeleteThis technique is so effective and really pretty with the silver embossing over the crinkled tissue Kara, and love the blues and greens in the background. The large sentiment looks perfect over the top too. x
